Your trauma doesn’t interest me half as much as your recovery does
There, I said it.
Remember back in the 90’s when you were jammin’ out to your favorite song and the CD began to skip? The singer would stutter the same few syllables repeatedly and it was a scramble to shut it off before it totally grated your nerves. That whole CD full of amazing songs, has now become a reminder how annoying repetitive noise can be. What a shame.
I’ve always found that I learn far more about people from the way in which they move forward from tragedy, than I do from listening to them tell the story of the trauma over, and over, and over. Just like that CD, their whole life full of amazing moments, has been reduced to annoying repetitive noise…simply because of a few scratches to the surface.
Back then, you spent $12.99 on a new CD. If it got scratched up, you bought a CD repair kit for $10-$15 polished it up, good as new, to continue enjoying it. The alternative was to just continue suffering the annoying noise, cussing at the CD player, and wishing it wouldn’t do that.
We always have a choice. What are you choosing?
It is more than likely that you have spent far more than $10-$15 and 5 minutes on self help books and are still living in a trauma loop. Don’t let those scratches, blemishes, and minor imperfections steal one more minute of your life energy and happiness! Invest in the entire soundtrack of your life, not just the chorus, and experience how sweet the melody can truly be.
